A 38 year old Ithaca man man barricaded himself inside of a Hudson Street home for close to two hours Monday after police were called for a reported physical domestic dispute.
While at the scene, officers developed information Damien Blackman, the suspect, was wanted on a bench warrant for a felony criminal possession of a controlled substance charge. Blackman was able to barricade himself in a second floor bedroom and refused to surrender to police. After several attempts to engage him in conversation failed, the Ithaca Police SWAT team was called to the scene. Blackman then surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.
During the incident, the South Hill School was notified of the nearby standoff, at which point they made alternate arrangements for where they normally release students.
