High school basketball’s opening weekend continued Saturday in the Finger Lakes. On the boys’ side, CN-S nipped Auburn, 77-75; Port Byron got by Groton, 59-53; Phoenix roasted Red Creek, 71-42; Cato-Meridian hammered Hannibal, 89-39; and Byron-Bergen eked by Red Jacket, 45-44. One score on the girls’ side, Weedsport handled Geneva, 68-50.
In college hoops, the Keuka men fell to Stockton, 77-50; while the Syracuse women remained unbeated with a 74-62 win over George Washington.
And in the NBA, Houston dropped the Knicks, 117-102.
In the NHL, the Sabres blanked by Montreal, 3-0; while the Islanders edged Ottawa, 2-1; and in AHL action, the Amerks squeaked by Binghamton, 4-3; and the Crunch took down Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 4-3.
On the gridiron, in a game you heard on Finger Lakes News Radio, Syracuse finished their season with a 42-14 loss to Boston College, finishing 4-8, 2-6 in the ACC. The Giants are on their bye this week, the Bills head to KC for a 1 o’clock kickoff, and the Jets host Carolina, also at 1.
