Irene Furano, 85, formerly of Seneca Falls, passed away at Seneca Nursing Home in Waterloo, on Sunday, (November 19, 2017).
Irene’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, (November 28, 2017) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 97 W. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Geneva, N.Y. There will be no prior calling hours.
Irene was born in New Bedford, Mass. on October 26, 1932, to the late Manuel and Maria (Rapoza) Farias. She had been a resident of Seneca Falls since 1972. Irene was a former employee at Guaranteed Parts in Seneca Falls and Parker Hanifin in Lyons, N.Y. She was a member of St. Stephens Church in Geneva.
Irene enjoyed sewing and making Italian Pizzelle’s for family and friends and going to yard sales.
Irene is survived by one daughter, Gwen (David) Hanselman, Seneca Falls, N.Y.; three grandchildren Marc (Kaitlin) Balistreri, Joseph (Kyla) Balistreri, Kayla Miller; four great-grandchildren Greyson and Tyson Balistreri, Savannah Balistreri and Giovanna Jensen. Besides her parents, Irene is predeceased by her husband, Edward P. Furano, who passed away on December 1, 1976; one brother, James Farias; three sisters Alice Calvin, Gloria Jones, and Cecelia Hendriques.
The family would like to send a special “thanks” to the Staff at Seneca Nursing Home on the “B” wing. Irene cherished the care she received and loved the nickname “Rocky”.
