An engineer with GHD Consulting is recommending the City of Auburn consider purchasing the temporary carbon filtration system used this year to eradicate toxins from harmful algal blooms in Owasco Lake.
Stephen Waldvogel told City Council at Tuesday’s meeting the project was well worth it, and Municipal Utilities Director Seth Jensen agrees.
He tells Finger Lakes News Radio the option was on the table from the outset.
Tests samples of treated water throughout the summer found no traces of microcystins or other toxins. Jensen adds once the analysis of the data from test results is complete he will deliver his recommendation to City Council, possibly as early as January.
