Auburn City Council on Thursday night made it official, voting to send a letter to federal lawmakers declaring the city’s opposition to the tax reform bill that was passed by the House.
City Clerk Chuck Mason said on Friday’s Finger Lakes Morning News council members oppose the measure because it limits the state and local tax deductions that many city residents rely on at tax time.
New York Republican Congressmen John Katko and Tom Reed voted in favor of the tax bill. In a statement, Katko said the bill is not perfect, but it’s a good start. He also called the tax code too complex and added it places an unfair burden on working families.
