A police pursuit that began in Skaneateles resulted with the arrest of an Elbridge teen and the death of an East Syracuse man in a wreck on I-690.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports a Skaneateles officer attempted to stop a Honda around 12:20am on Thursday morning, but the driver took off heading toward Camillus.
The pursuit was terminated when the passenger, an unidentified 16-year old from Elbridge, fled the vehicle in a rural area. He was spotted by the Air 1 helicopter and was taken into custody.
The Honda was spotted by a deputy on Route 5 and it again sped away and was eventually located broken down and unoccupied near the ramp from I-690 to State Route 695 north. Deputies also spotted a tractor trailer stopped on the shoulder of 690 just west of the 695 interchange.
They discovered the driver of the Honda, an unidentified 22-year from East Syracuse, had been struck by the semi. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was uninjured.
