Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick has officially recommended Acting City Police Chief Pete Tyler officially become police chief.
Tyler has been with the department for 26 years and has served as acting chief since John Barber retired in March. Barber endorsed Tyler to replace him shortly after he retired. With the Ithaca Police Department, Tyler has served as administrative deputy chief and senior deputy chief and has been a member of the SWAT and Recruitment teams.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Tyler is also a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
