The Auburn School District is calling on Gov. Cuomo to eliminate the Income Wealth Index floor in his executive budget proposal.
At its meeting on Tuesday night, the school board approved the public declaration. District Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo tells Finger Lakes News Radio they are taking a realistic approach to getting more Foundation Aid funding.
By comparison, Pirozzolo says removing the IWI floor would cost the state $200 to $300 Million.
He adds the declaration will be sent to other districts across the state, and Auburn officials hope more voices and the change in tactics will encourage lawmakers and the Cuomo administration to properly fund Auburn and other poor districts.
