The chilly, damp weather that’s arrived in the Finger Lakes might have you thinking about getting a flu shot. Cayuga County Health Department Registered Professional Nurse Kevin Zippel said on Tuesday’s Finger Lakes Morning News as many as 20 percent of Americans get the flu each year, and it can be deadly.
New Director of Community Health Nancy Purdy added the flu puts a strain on the overall public health.
Influenza is now the number 8 cause of death in the US, but it is completely vaccine preventable. If you don’t have health insurance, the county offers low or no cost ways to get vaccinated. You can get more information by calling the department at (315) 253-1560
