The Canandaigua City Council holds a public hearing Thursday night at 7 on the proposed 14.4 million dollar City Budget for 2018. Likely to get the most comment, plans to add another full time police officer and to increase hours for a pair of part-timers. In his budget message City Manager John Goodwin says they need extra manpower to deal with the growing number of drug cases. Goodwin also wants to create a Deputy Chief Position in the Fire department to help implement a volunteer recruitment campaign and fire prevention activities and to serve as an incident commander when the chief isn’t available. Between salary and benefits the new post would cost the City about 100-thousand dollars a year.
