A phone scam alert is out in Ontario County, after a Gorham resident received a phony phone call. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says the unidentified resident got a call on Saturday from a woman with a thick foreign accent offering to help pay an overdue debt of 175 dollars.
Authorities say there was no such debt, but the caller became aggressive and asked for some personal information. Officials are now warning people to beware of phone scams like this, and should never give out information over the phone like their social security numbers.
If you do receive such a call, contact the sheriff’s office at 585-394-4560.
