Auburn Police Chief Shawn Butler has mixed feelings about the department’s online public satisfaction survey. The survey administered by SU’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs showed 93% of the more than 600 respondents identified as white.
Chief Butler tells Finger Lakes News Radio he was hoping for responses from a more diverse cross-section of residents.
On the plus side, nearly 70% strongly agree the department ensures a safe environment and officers are professional, friendly and responsive.
While he didn’t get the demographic result he wanted in the survey, Chief Butler is hoping a representation of the makeup of the city’s population take the department’s civil service exam on December 2.
