Convicted killer and former Romulus resident 56-year old Karl Karlsen has been issued a trial date of February 20th, 2018 in Calaveras County, California.
Karlsen is accused of setting a fire at his California home in 1991 that killed his wife Christina and then he collected $200,000 dollars in life insurance.
Karlsen’s second wife, Cindy Best, recently spoke to students at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Best said when they first met and Karl told her the story about the fire, she felt sad for him.
That feeling changed as Cindy eventually worked with Seneca County Sheriff’s deputies to get Karl to confess to killing his own son Levi by pinning him under a pick-up truck in 2008. Then collecting $700,000 in insurance money.
In Seneca County Court, Karlsen received a 28 years to life sentence for Levi’s death.
Cindy Best-who now lives in Florida- is writing a book with the working title “Next in Line, I Married a Murder.”
