A Dutchess County, New York man has been arrested by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for allegedly providing two residents of the Bath VA Medical Center with fentanyl that they overdosed on during the same weekend back in February.
34 year old Matthew Helmer is charged with a felony count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. After being questioned by investigators, the two patients alleged Helmer, who was a resident with them at the VA’s drug treatment program, provided them with the opioids. Prosecutors allege Helmer acted as a “runner” to purchase fentanyl for a group of veterans at the Bath VA.
He will be back in court at a later date.
