Truman E. Bells, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Somerset, Pa. in the presence of family members on Friday (October 20, 2017) following a long illness.
He was born on March 22, 1936 in Brooktondale, N.Y. to Truman and Elizabeth (Donat) Bells and attended high school in Seneca Falls, N.Y. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany from 1958-1960, when he was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Truman lived in the Waterloo and Seneca Falls, N.Y. area for nearly 30 years where he married Joan (Sanderson) Bells and worked as a printer at the Seneca Pennysaver and Machinist at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls. On October 19, 1985 Truman married Erma (Kirch-Arnold) Bells, and in 1989 he retired from Goulds and moved to Somerset, PA where he worked as a printer at Prestige Printing. He retired from Prestige Printing and went to
work for Seven Springs Resort in Champion, Pa. for several years.
Truman enjoyed fishing, bowling, carpentry and attending auctions. His hobbies also included Lionel trains, and he was a member of Laurel Highlands Model Railroad Club in Somerset. He was a member of the Boy Scout of America and was a Scout Master for over 25 years in both N.Y. and Pa. He was also a member of Air Heritage Inc in Beaver Falls, Pa., The Eagles, VFW and American Legion of Somerset, Pa. He loved his two little Daschund dogs and was best known for his infectious sense of humor.
Truman is predeceased by his sisters Gloria (Merle) Getty and Clementia (Sam) Kimpel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Erma Bells; his sister, Irene (Bruce) Crane; children Dawn (Greg) McPherson, Truman (Marie) Bells; and step children Barry (Elaine) Arnold, David (Terry) Arnold, Shirley Penter, Martha (John) Clark and John (Amy) Arnold. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren;13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Truman on Tuesday, (October 23, 2017) at 6:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home at 555 Tayman Ave. Somerset, PA 15501. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
