A U.S. Ski Team Olympic Hopeful who came out of the Bristol Mountain Ski Club was found dead by his parents at his East Rochester home.
The U.S. Ski Team website announced 17-year-old freestyle aerialist Mikey Lillis passed away in his sleep Saturday. Lillis was on a break between preseason camps at the time.
Lillis’s older brothers are already prominent figures in the sport, as Jon Lillis is the defending world champion and Chris Lillis won the World Cup in Switzerland last year.
Mikey Lillis was to head to Lake Placid to take part in U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Elite Aerial Development Program next week.
In a statement, U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Tiger Shaw said, “We are a family and as a family our entire team grieves for Mikey, his own family and his teammates. We’ll remember him for the pathway he was following and the goals he was beginning to achieve. Our condolences go out to his parents Bernie and Jamie and the entire Lillis family.”
No word yet on memorial services.
