Ithaca Police, Fire and EMS Personnel went to bat for charity in the Annual First Responder Charity Softball Tournament a few weeks ago. Ithaca Fire beat out Bangs Ambulance and continued on to play in the championship game against the Ithaca Police. The Police took home the trophy for the third year in a row. In addition to the game itself, there were great door prizes given out to ticketholders, and a base-race for all the kids during the 5th inning with the mascots, Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog.
The rain held out, and the players and the fans in the stands had a great day. The real winner of this year’s tournament is everyone that benefits from the services of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. The community came together to raise over $4,000 for the event, and all of the proceeds will be going to the Food Bank and will help supply over 9,000 meals to our neighbors in need.
We look forward to next year’s tournament, and hope to raise even more for another great charity. If you’re interested in helping us or want to know more about the Charity Softball Game, please visit us at www.facebook.com/charitysoftball or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
