The late Tom Petty once did a song with the line “Money became King,” and boy, was he right. Seems as though everything has become motivated by money…entertainment, politics, social media, the web, sports…you won’t find anything that hasn’t been tainted by the desire to get more money than another person who’s doing the same thing. We’ve come to celebrate those with the most money, especially rich celebs, placing them on pedestals higher than Cheech and Chong after a night of ripping bong hits. Our government officials worship at the altar of money, it makes things happen for them…and occasionally to them…and where we once valued things like family, friendship, and morality, those went flying out the window faster than a Donald Trump tweet. We’re trying to amass dough like New York City pizza shops prepping for the lunchtime rush…we just want to keep making more and more and more, all the while realizing in the back of our heads that we’re not gonna be able to use it all and we can’t take it with us when God tells us it’s time to close up shop. I think it’s time that we realized that money is an important tool, but it’s also dangerous and having the most money doesn’t make you a better entertainer, player, businessman, or politician…a lot of times, it just makes you the biggest jackass on the block, a raging hypocrite, or morally fugly…just ask Harvey Weinstein.
