John W. Piehl age 69 of Canandaigua passed away Sunday Oct. 1, 2017.
John will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Romulus, NY on Tuesday Oct. 10th at 11am . Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of John’s life, 1pm Tuesday Oct. 10th at the Canandaigua VFW Post 7414, 93 South Main Street, Canandaigua.
John was born Feb. 6, 1948 in Clifton Springs the son of the late John W. Piehl Sr. and Minnie Rausler Piehl. John served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1971 and later served in the Army National Guard from 1973 to 1985. He served in Vietnam, Okinawa and Germany. John proudly marched with fellow veterans in Memorial Day parades. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 44 in Clifton Springs and VFW Post 7414 in Canandaigua. John enjoyed fishing, hunting and bon-fires with family and friends. He could be found enjoying a cold beer while hanging out at Jose & Willy’s in Canandaigua. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all.
John is survived by his daughter, Christine (Matthew) Prizzi of Blacksburg, SC; grandchildren, Jarrod and Maria Prizzi of Rock Hill, SC; two loving sisters, Mary Merscher and Caroline Crocker both of Clifton Springs; nephew and best friend, Charlie (Kathy) Piehl and their children, Jack and Elizabeth; nieces, Anita (David) Pierce and their son William Barr, Elizabeth Burnett, her son, Nicholas and Carrie (Jamie) Jackson and family.
