I got home yesterday and found my wife sitting outside our apartment door…I thought she had locked herself out, but no, she was taking care of 3 cats that someone left at our door after ringing the doorbell. One was an adult cat that was a mooch and wanted constant attention, one was orange and was terrified of everything around it, and one was a kitten who managed to hide himself in the downstairs laundry room in a precise spot on the other side of the hot water heater that was out of my reach…and they say cats aren’t smart. We eventually got the kitten and after several phone calls and some social media posts one of my co-workers came to pick them up and give them a chance to have a good life. This all happened within a few hours, and in that time, I forgot about any of my own problems or complaints, and the focus was solely on taking care of the abandoned animals and finding them a place to be. I learned some things from all of this: One, cats know more than you think…two, area shelters need your help either adopting animals or volunteering because they’re overloaded and understaffed…and three, no matter what’s going on in the world around you, sometimes it’s just about taking care of those that need to be taken care of…no questions asked, no complaints made…just do it…and that’s a lesson a LOT of people need to learn right now.
