According to a new report from State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office, Seneca County has the highest percentage of .structurally deficient local bridges in the state at 34.6% (or 9 out of 28) . Cayuga County is next at 27.6% (or 24 out of 87) . The state wide estimated cost to fix all the ” troubled” bridges 27.4 billion dollars. DiNapoli says , “addressing all forms of aging infrastructure will be key to boosting the economy, especially in areas of upstate that have struggled to recover from decades of decline”.
In reaction Seneca County Board Chairman Bob Shipley tells us the actual number of bridges rated deficient isn’t as high as it may seem and they do deal with structures in need each year.
Box culverts are included in the count.
