State Police this afternoon confirmed that there was an exchange of gun fire between a yet to be named Canandaigua Police officer and 48 year old State Parole Officer Sandra Gaudriola in which she was mortally wound Wednesday afternoon. She had not shown up for work Wednesday and Canandaigua Police were asked to check on her. After getting no response, managers at the apartment complex let the officer in . There was a brief verbal interaction and then shots were fired. Authorities declined to say what the two said to each other. Gaurdiola was taken to FF Thompson Hospital and pronounced dead moments later. State Police Major Rick Allen says the investigation will take time
Guardiloa has been away from work for a couple of weeks after being hurt in a car accident in the Southern Tier. Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth said after the State Police finish their work, his department would conduct an internal investigation.
The State Police, Canandaigua Police Department, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office will be giving an update on the events of Wednesday’s fatal officer involved shooting at Pinnacle North in Canandaigua . Thursday authorities identified the woman who died in the incident as 48 year old Sandra Guardiola who had been a State Parole officer for the past year in the Canandaigua area.
