The Village of Newark, the Newark Central School District, and Silver Hill Technology Park are happy to announce the return of a Newark tradition! For the first time in many years, a cross country meet will be held at Silver Hill Technology Park. The former site of Sarah Coventry and C.H. Stuart was a favorite of cross country runners that brought athletes and spectators from all over Section V territory into the Village of Newark. On Tuesday, October 17th at 4:30 p.m., this will happen again, giving participants and onlookers the same thrill that was experienced in the past!
“Hosting Cross Country meets at Silver Hill Technology Park using the iconic Sarah Coventry course again is creating a tremendous amount of excitement in the community and throughout the region…..I would like to thank the Town and Village crews, and all of the members of our community who are helping to make this possible” – Jonathan Taylor, Mayor, Village of Newark
“The Newark Central School District Athletic Department is proud to have strong working relationships with the Village of Newark, Town of Arcadia, and Wayne County. Already having our baseball and softball teams play at Colburn Park and Frey Street are great examples of this partnership. Reopening the legendary Sarah Coventry cross country course is the icing on the cake. We believe in providing the very best experience for our student-athletes and having our runners compete at Silver Hill Technology Park does just that. We are excited to share the news with other schools across the league, section, and state, and invite them to come compete.” – Chris Corey, Director of Athletics, Newark CSD
“Sarah Coventry has a unique place in Section V cross country history. We are proud to bring back the course for a new generation of runners.” – Joe Contario, Varsity Cross Country Coach, Newark CSD
