There are times when you really don’t want to be right about something…and the flurry of gun control smack flying through the air in the wake of the Las Vegas shootings is one of those. Since I can’t steer the rest of the world away from it, I figure I’ll jump in the pool with some thoughts of my own. One: A gun is NOT a defensive weapon any more than a paper towel is a necessity for a hurricane survivor. It’s an OFFENSIVE weapon when used in a situation like Vegas. Two: Anything considered police grade or military grade, especially anything automatic or semi automatic, should NOT be available for public purchase, period. Three: I personally don’t like guns, I see them as just a way to make you more efficient at killing stuff…but most importantly, number Four: I’m not going to tell you that you can’t buy one, carry one, or use one. A co-worker made a great point: When our constitution was drafted, bearing arms meant using a musket, which took minutes to load and was as likely to blow up in your face as it was to fire at an enemy…kinda like our Government’s foreign policy at the moment. I don’t think Washington, Franklin, and company could imagine the raging debate that we have over things now. I would hope that they’d grab the most liberal anti-gun activist and Wayne LaPierre from the NRA, lock them in a room with them, stick a Revolutionary-era boot up both of their asses and tell them to think before shooting off…both their mouths AND their guns.
