Judy May Smith, 68, died unexpectedly on Thursday (September 28, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street, Phelps. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (October 4) at the funeral home with the Rev. Adrian Tierson officiating. Burial will be in South Lyons Cemetery.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River Road, Waterloo, NY 13165.
Judy was born on December 12, 1948, in Lyons, N.Y., the daughter of Irvin and Gertrude Schendel Young. She worked at Hemmingways, Greenwoods Foods, Clearplas and Savannah Lutheran Nursing Home. Judy was an avid NASCAR fan and loved both of the Earnhardt’s. She enjoyed making many different crafts and crocheting. She also made wedding cakes for many years. Most important to Judy was her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Wayne Smith Sr., of Seneca Falls; two sons Wayne Smith Jr. and Edward (Della) Smith; five grandchildren Zachary, Dawson, Alyssa, Nicholas and Samantha; father, Irvin (Shirley) Young; sister, Barbara Gabbard; brother, Irvin (Sonny) Young Jr.; uncle, Elkannah “Bud” (Cathy) Young Jr.; aunts Marlin Barner and Ethel “Petey” Graham; many nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
She was predeceased by her mother, Gertrude, and sisters Marge Brownell and Rose Quigley.
