In June of 2016 the Canandaigua City Council passed a resolution placing a 5 year moratorium on the use of pesticides in all City Parks. Now Thursday night the Council will take up a measure that repeals the moratorium and reinstates the City’s previous integrated pest management program . Weed control wound up being more costly and much more labor intensive without the use of pesticides. One study showing that the organic herbicide, the Parks Department used in the past year was less effective and about three times more expensive compared to using Round-up.
