Mildred “Mickey” Denniston age 91, died unexpectedly on Saturday (September 23, 2017) at Newark-Wayne Hospital.
Friends may call on Thursday (Sept. 28) from 4-7 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps, Funeral services will be held on Friday (Sept 29.) 10 a.m. at the United Church of Phelps with Rev. Adrian Tierson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
It is requested that memorial donations be made to the United Church of Phelps 58 Main Street Phelps, NY 14532.
Mickey was born on November 25, 1925 in Clifton Springs, N.Y. the daughter of the late Paul and Grace Peters Smith. She lived in the area all her life and graduated from Phelps High School in 1943. After graduation she worked at the Geneva Daily Times composing ads until her marriage to Charles Denniston on January 27, 1947. They lived on South Wayne street where they raised 5 children. Mickey worked in the dental office across the street as a dental assistant until her retirement in 1988. She was active in her community with her children and grandchildren’s activities. Mickey was blessed with many friends going to movies, eating out and playing Pinochle. She was an avid crocheter and for many Christmases had crocheted snowflakes for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She will sadly missed by her loving family, and her Newark Terrace family.
Mickey is survived by her children Kathleen Guth of Phelps, Leighton (Vicki) Denniston of Endicott, N.Y., Kevin (Marion) Denniston of Newark, Lisa (Daniel) Walborn of Pensacola, Fla., Maurie Haven of Newark. Thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Judy) Smith of Phelps, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Denniston; and two sisters Eleanor and Helen.
