In recent weeks, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has vowed to change the process of investigating and prosecuting sexual assault at colleges and universities. Victims will continue to be stood up for, according to DeVos, but she also has repeatedly emphasized the rights of students who are accused, saying one person denied due process is one too many. She is looking to rescind guidelines established by the Obama administration. Congressman Tom Reed was asked about this change.
Reed, whose niece was a victim of sexual assault, says he will continue to support victims.
DeVos has said her department would go through a formal process seeking public input in order to replace the current system with a more effective and just system.
