A Skaneateles man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from a DWI checkpoint in Auburn on Friday night.
39-year old Michael Demarco Jr. is accused of failing to stop at the checkpoint on the Arterial before he slammed into another car at the intersection of Seymour St. and Grant Av., seriously injuring 26-year old Jene Smith of Auburn.
Smith’s 6-year old son was also in the vehicle. Police Chief Shawn Butler tells Finger Lakes News Radio it could have been much worse.
Demarco was released after he appeared in Auburn City Court on Tuesday. Investigators are waiting for the results of a blood test and additional charges are pending.
