Edith W. Traver, 86, formerly of Genoa, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 at the Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn.
Mrs. Traver was born May 20, 1931 in Montour Falls, a daughter of the late Henry and Pauline (Glauer) Welch. She graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1949 and afterward attended Broome Community College. Edith assisted her late husband, Marvin, in operating a dairy farm for over 60 years, before her retirement.
She was a member of the United Church of Genoa, the Niles, Lake Como, King Ferry and Locke Sr. Citizens groups, and had attended Fleming Federated Church in her later years. Edith enjoyed gardening and playing piano and she had also served as an election inspector for the town of Genoa for a number of years.
She is survived by a brother, David H. Welch, of Washington, Pa.; a sister, Alice Laue, of Enfield; dear friends, Timothy and Jennifer Driscoll, of Genoa; four “special grandchildren,” Bryan and Kaley Driscoll and Lauren and Jonathan Thompson, all of Genoa; two aunts, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 10117 Route 90, Genoa. Interment will follow in Genoa Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
“Edie” was most grateful for the care and love given by the staff of the Commons, to both her and to Marvin.
