Congressman Tom Reed says he will co-sponsor legislation proposed by western New York House Republican Chris Collins that aims at repealing New York’s SAFE Act. Reed will throw his support behind the “Second Amendment Guarantee Act.” The Corning Republican says the bill will also send a message that he stands by the rights which are “guaranteed by the Constitution.”
What about those that say the SAFE Act helps prevents gun violence?
If passed, the bill would prevent states from implementing any regulations on weapons that are more restrictive than what’s required by federal law. The SAFE Act came just after the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2013 as the state Legislature passed a bill that toughened gun safety laws.
