Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Savino, 87, beloved mother and friend passed away on Aug. 25, 2017 at the Commons on St. Anthony, following a brief illness.
Elizabeth Ann was born in Elmira, N.Y. on May 23, 1930, the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Alice Morgan McGill. Elizabeth was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Elmira prior to marrying Rocco Savino in 1953, and relocating to Auburn, N.Y. She enjoyed a fulfilling career with New York Telephone and then on to AT&T before retiring in 1991.
Elizabeth carried her zest for life into her retirement, spending time with family and friends and traveling across the country. Her meetings with “The Club Girls” and Friday luncheons always held a special place in her heart. The family would especially like to thank Sue Reilly and Patty Stoddard for caring for Betty in her later years.
Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, Michael (Barb Pordy), of Auburn, Gary and his wife, Laurie, of Chandler, Ariz., and David and his wife, Lynnette, of Moravia, N.Y.; two former daughters-in-law, Karen Savino and Margaret Savino; her cherished grandchildren, Meghan Savino, Michael Drew Savino (Meg Coe), Ashley Schoonmaker (Austin), and Erin Savino; along with many other loving family members and close friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Rocco Savino; brother, Robert McGill, and sister, Mary Claire Klugo.
Friends invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 in Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road, Auburn. Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours for Betty will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road, Auburn.
