Elmira Police arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the shooting of a teenage boy that happened Wednesday night in the 4-HUNDRED block of West 3rd Street.
When police arrived at the scene of a large disturbance, they found a 17-year-old with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre and is listed in stable condition.
Early Thursday morning, Jose Rivas, of Elmira, was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon. Its alleged Rivas was in possession of a loaded shotgun and semi-automatic handgun at the time of the shooting. Rivas was sent to Chemung County Jail.
Investigators say the shooting was not a random act and are asking witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their tipline at 271-HALT.
