Richard Purdy, 84, of Union Springs, and formerly of New Milford, Conn., passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 at Auburn Community Hospital.
He was the son of the late Guy Augustus and Laura Gertrude Blacklock Purdy. Richard was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1953 to 1957 within which he received the China Service medal. He worked as a farm manager for many years. Richard enjoyed in his retirement years being an amateur photographer taking pictures of things that struck his fancy.
Richard was a loving, devoted father, uncle, grandfather and friend to many. No person was a stranger after making his acquaintance. He loved his family, had a great love for people, and considered his duty to share his faith in God with others as often as possible.
He lives behind five children, Bruce A. Purdy and his wife, Aida, of New Jersey, Linda J. Purdy Barrett and her husband, Edward J. Sr., of Connecticut, Brian R. Purdy and his wife, Teresa, of Tennessee, Brennan D. Purdy, of New York, and Bennett M. Purdy and his wife, Margita Purdy, of Tennessee; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three stepsons; several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 in the Seneca Bible Baptist Church, 1859 US Route 20, Seneca Falls, NY 13148 with the Rev. Terry Fenton officiating. Interment will take place in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Springs, N.Y. with military honors.
