Debate about the need for confidentiality in the search for the new Cayuga County Administrator took center stage at Tuesday’s county legislature meeting. The field has been narrowed from more than 60 applicants to the final five, and legislature chair Keith Batman tells Finger Lakes News Radio there is a need to keep the names of the finalists under wraps.
Reached on vacation, Batman added he’s pleased with how the search has progressed, and he hopes the new administrator will be named soon.
County Attorney Fred Westphal told lawmakers they were asked to sign a confidentiality agreement to avoid a previous instance when a prospective candidate for a county position was fired from his job when legislature members contacted his employer.
The county has been without an administrator since Suzanne Sinclair abruptly resigned in March.
