A 54-year-old Ithaca man that was sentenced earlier this month to five years probation for breaking into a home last November that was occupied by four Ithaca College students is now in the custody of Rochester Police after being picked up in Yates County.
Christopher Talman was found sleeping on the shoulder of Route 14 in the town of Starkey Friday afternoon. A background check revealed he had an active arrest warrant out of Rochester for trespassing.
Prior to his sentencing this month, Talman spent several months in Tompkins County Jail after being found inside a South Aurora Street home by the landlord who had stopped by to shovel the driveway in November of 2016. The landlord noticed the upstairs windows of the home were open even though his four tenants were away on break. When he entered, the landlord found extensive damage to the kitchen and an entryway with cabinets, chairs, desks, and counters all destroyed. There was also fire damage to the floors and walls. In addition to probation, Talman was also ordered to pay more than 13-THOUSAND dollars in restitution.
Talman was listed as being homeless in the arrest report issued by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
