Stephen W. Moffett, 73, formerly of Aurora, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017 at home in Lexington, SC surrounded by his family.
Mr. Moffett was born in Chelmsford, Essex, England on May 31, 1944, the son of the late Lyle Maine Moffett and Olive Annie Mae Baker. Stephen’s family emigrated from England in 1958, residing in Potsdam, NY, where he graduated high school in 1962. He attended SUNY Canton, earning his A.S. degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Engineering in 1964. Stephen continued his education at Alfred University, graduating with his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1974. After completing his education, he went on to a career as an HVAC Engineer & Consultant with several organizations nationwide, finally retiring in 2013.
Stephen was an avid stamp collector since childhood and with his wife Judith became antique enthusiasts, collecting whatever happened to catch their eye. While residing in Aurora, NY from 1979 to 1995, Stephen and his family owned and operated the Aurora Coffee Shop, and later the late Aurora IGA Grocery. In addition, Stephen served the New York State Magistrates Association and the Town of Ledyard as a Town Justice. Stephen was also an active member of Scipio Masonic Lodge #110 of Aurora, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith Ann (Clark), formally of Norwood, NY; one son, Kevin, of Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Kathryn of Syracuse, NY and Stephanie, of Phoenix, AZ; one granddaughter, Jordan, of Syracuse; two brothers, Thomas (Carolyn) of Dryden, NY and Edward of Kansas City, MO; sister Victoria (Annon) Chaudhuru of Hartford, CT; brother-in-law Michael Morris; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded by his sister, Sherri Morris.
A memorial service will be held at a future date in New York state. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Stephen’s memory to the Aurora Masonic Center Building Restoration Fund, P.O.
