Gloria Loftus, 91, of Geneva, passed away on Wednesday, (August 16,2017) at Geneva General Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (Aug. 22) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, NY. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Gloria was born in New York City and was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Twserski Sigel. She graduated from high school at an early age and graduated from Columbia University in NYC with a PHD in education. She was a teacher in New York City and many different educational settings. She spent time traveling, opening a coffee shop in NYC and a school for special education in Geneva, when her kids were younger.
She enjoyed classical music and loved reading poetry. She had a desire to keep learning. Her favorite things to read were the New Yorker and the New York Review of books.
She loved her children more than anything and was known by many as a feisty, strong willed woman.
She is survived by her son, Joseph and daughters, Tara Loftus of Geneva and Ariel (Greg) Schwendner of Wichita, KS; her loving caregivers and friends Tara Carr of Geneva, Mary Ufhozg of Canandaigua, Susan Penna of Geneva and here cousin Yetter of NYC.
She was predeceased by her son Jethro Loftus in 2010.
