A mistrial has been declared in the case of an Elmira man accused in the shooting death of another following an argument over an Xbox.
29-year-old Akeem Williams had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 44-year-old Tiko Head, of Elmira. In the trial, a witness testified shortly after Williams came home early one morning in June of 2016, Head arrived. The two men got into an argument about one of them using the other’s Xbox when it quickly escalated. The witness testified both men were about 3 feet from each other when she heard a loud noise and Head grabbed his chest and said he had been shot. Williams testified on his own behalf, telling the jury the shooting was accidental.
Williams was sent back to jail on one million dollars bail, but his attorney can submit a bail reduction request. Judge Richard Rich, Junior scheduled jury selection for a retrial for the end of October.
