Laura F. Slayton, 91, of Penn Yan was called home to the Lord on August 9, 2017.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband George W. Slayton, parents Harry Bates and Alma Quigley, sister Carol B. Shannon (Adrian), step-brother William Quigley Jr.
Survived by loving son Robert E. Northup (Marianna), devoted niece Patricia Kirkey (Peter), nephew Michael Shannon, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren including special great-granddaughter Hannah Bobis, many other relatives and friends.
Laura worked many years at Corning Glass Works, and for the Boy Scouts of America, later at Tops in Geneva and for a time at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church office. She received her associates degree in business from Corning Community College at the age of 65. She was a strong woman of faith, trusting all to Our Lord. During her lifetime Laura was a homemaker extraordinaire. There was never a time that she wasn’t sewing, crocheting, knitting, baking and decorating cakes, or making jams and pickles. She played the piano and organ entertaining us at family gatherings. George and Laura took up dance lessons and belonged to several dance clubs. Together they grew an organic garden and blessed their family and friends with their harvest. We will sadly miss her spirit of faith, her infectious laugh, her generosity and strength and determination to do all things well.
Many thanks to the staff at the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home for their care in her final year.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 7pm. Wednesday (Aug. 16) at the Weldon Funeral Home Inc. 102 E. Main St. Penn Yan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeffery Childs officiating. Burial will follow at the Lake View Cemetery, Penn Yan, NY.
