Jo Livermore, Program Coordinator, has being selected to receive the Thomas A. Maul Direct Support Professional Excellence Award for the NYSARC, Inc. Western Region. She has been with Arc for more than 13 years.
This annual award recognizes a Direct Support Professional who consistently demonstrates excellence, creativity and commitment to providing supports to people who have intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
Jo has always embraced the opportunity to offer people choices on how they can support the community through activities which they truly enjoy. These activities include (but are not limited to): planting for Waterloo in Bloom, organizing book drives for local libraries, delivering Meals on Wheels and helping out in local food pantries,
Jo was the catalyst behind Arc of Seneca Cayuga providing the (first) bus shuttle for the annual “It’s a Wonderful Life” celebration in Seneca Falls last year. It was a very cold weekend, so everyone loved to get a warm ride between the various activities. That was a huge undertaking that involved securing the buses and drivers, getting volunteers, mapping out the bus routes (and much more) for the three-day event.
She is also credited with securing the art exhibition at Artworks in Seneca Falls. More than 40 digitally-created art pieces are on display at Artworks during the month of August.
This isn’t the first major award for Jo. In May, she received Arc of Seneca Cayuga’s annual Paula James Memorial Award, which recognizes a staff member’s consistent demonstration of compassion, caring, responsibility, and commitment to their job and to the agency, being mindful of the agency’s mission statement:
Ed Sayles, Community Relations Director, said, “Jo certainly is deserving of this award as she continually advocates for individuals and encourages them to pursue their life goals whether it’s employment, volunteering or education.”

Mission: Arc of Seneca Cayuga embraces diversity by recognizing the uniqueness of each individual and by working to ensure the success of people with disabilities as they pursue lives of choice and fulfillment.
