New details emerged from court documents Wednesday regarding the infant found in a trash bag in the back yard of a Walnut Street home in Elmira the day before.
The baby is 8 months old and had been at the property where she was located for approximately 72 hours. Neighbors heard a suspicious noise and thought it was an animal in distress. They found the baby dirty and dehydrated. She is now listed in stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The baby’s mother, 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt of Sayre, Pennsylvania, is charged with one count of attempted murder. She was sent to Chemung County Jail.
Elmira Police are continuing their investigation.
