Michael Angelo Trapani, 85, of Wegman Street, Auburn passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Auburn, born on July 10, 1932 to the late Frank and Vincenta Viola Trapani. He graduated from West High School Class of 1950 and earned a degree in business from Auburn Community College.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, having served our country honorably during the Korean War. After more than 37 years of employment at General Electric, he retired as the International Sales Manager for their Semiconductor Department. Throughout his career, he traveled the world extensively and developed many enduring friendships across the globe.
Mike was also involved in the Cayuga County Veterans of Korean War Chapter 296, where he dedicated his time and talents to help establish the Veterans Memorial Park in Auburn. He was also the former commander of Carnicelli-Indelicato Post 1776, and past president of the national Korean War Veterans’ Fifth Comm Group Association. Mike enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends and sharing stories of his travels and life experiences.
He will be sadly missed. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bernadette Beyer Trapani; their five beautiful children, daughters Karen Goodman and Janet (Martin) Trapani Loveless of Auburn, sons Michael (Molly) Trapani of Auburn, Thomas Trapani of Ithaca, James (Beth) Trapani of Fairport; his brother John Trapani of Auburn; nine grandchildren, Christopher Goodman and Timothy Goodman, Sarah Trapani, Elizabeth (David) Verdi, Catherine (Stephen) Wolfe, Dr. David (Emily) Trapani, John (Destyn) Trapani, Megan Trapani and Nicholas Trapani; six great-granddaughters, Isla, Emma, Demi, Mia, Ava and Elliott; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by daughter-in-law Kathy Trapani, who recently passed on July 27, 2017, son-in-law Richard Goodman, his sister Nancy Basile, and his father and mother in-law Edwin and Claudia Beyer.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at St. Francis of Assisi Church for Michael’s Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 31, at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee Street, Auburn, NY 13021. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
