Congressman Chris Collins will unveil legislation later today called the Second Amendment Guarantee Act, or “SAGA.” If approved would limit the authority of states and localities to regulate conduct, or impose penalties or taxes, in relation to rifles or shotguns.
In a news release Sunday Collins says that SAGA would serve as a means to repeal the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act at the federal level.
The SAFE act has been scrutinized by republican lawmakers and gun owners in New York State since it was signed into law by Governor Cuomo in 2013 as one of the toughest laws of its kind in the country.
Collins will hold a news conference this afternoon to outline the bill.
Collins Western New York congressional district (R, NY-27) includes the western half of Ontario County.
