He was trapped in his race car surrounded by flames. Ontario County Sheriff’s investigators now say a loose fuel line lead to the Saturday night’s fire that destroyed 69 year old Mike Humphrey’s micro-sprint car at Paradise Speedway in Phelps. Officials at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester continue to list him in guarded condition 4 days after the mishap. He suffered 3rd degree burns over 60% of his body. Humphrey had taken a practice lap when the fuel line disconnected causing the car to stall. Little did he know that gas had been spilling out. When he restarted the engine the gas ignited.
