Mrs. Mary M. Collins, 90, of 322 North Marvine Ave., Auburn, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Huntington Center, Waterloo, N.Y.
An Oswego native, she was the daughter of James F. and Alice Joyce Shay. She was a graduate of Oswego High School, and married Robert P. Collins on Dec. 30, 1950.
The family relocated to Auburn in 1968, and Mary began employment at then the Auburn Community College as a secretary, retiring from Cayuga Community College in 1986. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, enjoyed crossword puzzles, solitaire, and a good glass of Chablis wine. Most important though were her children and grandchildren.
Her family wishes to acknowledge the fine care and excellent staff at the Huntington Center that Mary received over the past 14 months.
Surviving are her husband, Robert P. Collins, and their children, Robert M. Collins and Deborah, of Lewiston, Maine, Maureen A. Collins, of Auburn, Kevin P. Collins and Pamela, of Westport, Conn., and Snowmass, Colo., and Mary Ann Van Auken, of Syracuse; grandchildren, Brendan (Farrah) Collins, of Boston, Mass., Devin (Amanda) Collins, of Greeley, Colo., Kylie Collins (Matt Galvez), of Snowmass, Colo., Meghan Van Auken, of Syracuse, and Molly Collins, of New York, N.Y.; great-grandson, Brandon; one sister, Joyce Schmidt, of New York Mills, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Pagliaro, of Florida, and Marian Shay, of Saugerties, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, James Shay, and two grandchildren, Ian Collins and Katelynn Collins.
Private family services were held yesterday, July 25, 2017 at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. Entombment was in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum.
