When one of our recent thunderstorms came through Geneva, the power went out, causing the traffic lights at Hamilton St. and Pre-Emption Road to go into blinking mode. Hamilton St. drivers got blinking yellow and Pre-Emption drivers got blinking red.
You never saw such a mess. You had cars stopping that were supposed to be going, cars going that were supposed to be stopping and of course, the drivers who think “yield” is French for “step on it.”
Let’s review this one more time. Blinking yellow means proceed through the intersection with caution, but watch out for people who don’t know what blinking red means. Blinking red means stop sign. Stop, check for traffic and when it’s clear, proceed.
Don’t worry, in a few years, it won’t matter if the power goes out at that intersection. The plan is to put in a traffic circle. Heaven help us.
