Ovid Community Garden Update
Shelley Pletcher, Sen Co CCE Master Gardener sent out the following email with relevant information for all gardeners. Please enjoy the following information.
Wow! The beds look great at the community garden! Some of you are ready to enjoy your lettuces, greens, peas, and beans! So what do you do with the garden space after your veggie plants are done?
Keep in mind that the growing season is still going strong and you can keep your beds productive well into the Fall.
You might want to think about succession planting, and that can mean a couple of things. First, in some cases, you can replant the same veggie. Or, you can plant a different one in the same spot.
Think about what you want from your raised bed, read and study seed packets to determine what will germinate and grow in July.
For example, I have a raised bed in my home garden that provided me with tons of lettuces until just a couple of weeks ago. In the spot where the lettuce grew, I’ve planted jalapeno peppers. When the peppers are done in late August, I’ll replant with greens again for enjoying in September and October.
Here is a link for more information. I will have some printed copies of this article in the garden mailbox in a few days!
