Cayuga County lawmakers are taking another look at building a new headquarters in downtown Auburn. On Tuesday night the Public Works Committee mulled over an idea that’s been kicking around for years to build a new office tower either on the site of the current building or the parking lot next door.
Legislature Chair Keith Batman tells Finger Lakes News Radio there’s nothing drastically wrong with the current facility.
A recent energy audit of all county buildings showed asbestos remediation and other improvements to the current building would cost around $11 Million, while a new building could be built for about $25 Million, but Batman questions those figures.
He adds it may be time to consolidate all county offices under one roof and sell off other county buildings to get them back on the tax rolls.
