The body of an 83-year-old man who went missing on Canandaigua Lake Monday morning has been found.
Ontario County deputies say Richard Myers’ body was found in Canandaigua Lake, not far from his South Bristol cottage, after an all day search.
Investigators say Myers had trouble starting the boat’s engine Monday morning. That was when a mechanic from Smith Brothers Marina paid a house call. When he left the boat, it was running. That is the last time Myers was seen.
His cause of death is under investigation.
Myers’ family released the following statement:
“We’d like to thank all the emergency responders and search and rescue teams who worked so diligently to bring Dick back to us.
We are heartbroken at losing him. We take a small comfort in knowing that Dick was spending time on the lake, which was something he loved to do.”
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing man in South Bristol.
Sheriff’s deputies say 83-year old Richard Myers, of Rochester, stopped at Smith Boys Marina on Route 21 Monday morning to get help starting his boat. They say an employee went to his cottage and was able to get it started.
Myers was last seen heading towards his residence around 10:30 a.m. with the boat running.
Just before 11 a.m., deputies received a report of a boat washing up on Canandaigua Lake, just north of Myers’ cottage. The boat was empty and the power was off. Police say Myers is known to swim off his boat in that area.
Nothing was found during an extensive search, in the water and on land, in the area of Myers’ cottage and where the boat was located.
Myers was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red shirt. Deputies say the jeans were found in his cottage, but the shirt was not.
The search will continue Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
